President Barack Obama made some time for Los Angeles this week and spent a few days appearing on the Tonight Show, having dinner with Dreamworks' CEO, and meeting with some Marines in San Diego.
Jay Leno didn't hold back on the Tonight Show and asked Obama everything from his Trayvon Martin comments, to Russia and Edward Snowden and of course ObamaCare. As usual Obama had concise answers for Jay and hopefully the public will take his point of view into consideration on all these topics.
But being the Barber that I am, I couldn't help notice that my boy was in need of a cut. Obama has been on the go so much that he hasn't had time to get it in. Obama rocks what I call the Corporate Black Man Cut, he usually takes the top and sides down to a 2, with a line by the temple - not touching in the natural line in the front.
I just so happen to be out for a run on the day of his departure and saw Obama's plane fly over me - so that technically qualifies as a Presidential sighting, right? I shouted my info to him in case he wanted to stop in for a cut but I'm not sure if he heard me. I'll be waiting by the phone just in case.
But you can certainly come in today and get your Presidential Cut - I'll be at the shop all weekend putting down some serious, serious cuts. Hit me up at 313-778-1479.

Trayvon, Obama, Tavis - Tone's View
First off, I had to take a moment of silence from blogging after the Zimmerman verdict. Disappointment can't even begin to express my feelings for the injustice that has occurred. I personally feel that Eric Holder now has the power to make a significant change - it's his move.
Last night I had the opportunity to attend a speaking engagement with Tavis Smiley where he addressed his comments directed at President Obama regarding Trayvon Martin and the Zimmerman verdict.
Tavis wanted to clear the air - tell the whole story to let us know where he was coming from when he spoke on Meet the Press. Tavis said that he wants the President, "to do more" in terms of eliminating racism in this country. When I personally asked Tavis to explain what more could be done from a presidential standpoint, he replied that Obama should push the issues of racism and poverty to top of his agenda and try to be more proactive rather than reactive.
I should also mention that Tavis expressed an interest in getting a cut from your boy Tone. I welcome him as a customer not just to address more of his comments but to also help him out with my expert techniques on blending light and dark spots in the hair. At least Tavis can look his best while he's out there giving advice to the President.
Of course I offer the same service to all my customers so hit me up for a cut. I'll be at the shop all day and would love to hear your comments. Call / Text Tone at 313-778-1479.

Against the Grain or With the Grain... That is the Question
Kevin Hart took the world by storm with his newly released stand up comedy movie, 'Let Me Explain.' He was pretty funny if I might say so myself with several "gut busting" stories that made the entire audience LOL literally.
Of course being the Barber that I am, I couldn't help but notice Kevin Hart's cut - against the grain, low, all over even. Good cut especially when you're on a stage in front of thousands of people at Madison Square Garden who are collectively blowing hot air towards you when they laugh.
Using the "Against the Grain" term to describe your cut is perfect when you're looking that low but cool look. Pretty much the clippers cut toward the back of your head, creating a shadow. Alternatively, when going "With the Grain" clippers cut toward the front of your head - giving you a fuller look and bringing out the natural waves in your hair.
So remember "Against the Grain" or "With the Grain" when you come in for your next cut. I'll be happy to explain what would be the best look for you. Holla at your Barber Tone - I'll bet putting in extra hours Friday and Saturday just to make sure you stay fresh (and cool) this summer.

Keepin Up With... Your Beard
Rumor has it that Lamar Odom may be joining the Lakers following Dwight
Howard's recently announced departure. Should Odom give the Lakers one
more chance after being ditched just two years ago? The wound is still
pretty fresh but nothing the right amount of cash couldn't cure. After
all, he does have to keep up with those Kardashians right? (Sorry - had
to say it)
Lamar Odom actually brings me to my topic of today, "Bald &
Bearded." Most of the time Odom keeps a bald head with a full beard,
trimmed close and tapers his natural line. Rocking a bald head with a
super tight beard is becoming more and more popular - but you must make
sure it's maintained or you may be mistaken for a renegade Mr. T. Whether you prefer to keep your beard thin or full, make sure you come to see your Barber Tone to help you keep it trimmed up with a crispy line.I'm at the shop today to help you start your week off right with a tight cut. Hit me up. 313-778-1479.
Comments about Lamar Odom's decision or Beards always welcome. Click here...

Remember To Be Decisive...
The Lakers 'Power Center' Dwight Howard ended his indecisive streak Friday by deciding that he will soon rest his head in Houston, after just one season with the Lakers. It could be argued that Dwight is leaving L.A. for hotter pastures because of Kobe, Coach D'Antoni or the GM Kupchak but we'll save that discussion for the shop.
D.H.'s indecisiveness reminded me of some of my customers who come into the shop and don't quite know what they want before they sit in the chair. My advice - know the cut you want and how to describe it! Oh and forget all the terms you have heard on the street - the 'Caesar', common in N.Y., the 'Shadow Fade' a Detroit favorite and even the 'Little Bootsie' here in L.A. The only way to guarantee that you get the cut you're looking for is to explain it in detail. Hey, help me help you - I want all my customers to leave the shop feeling their full swag.
I've been putting down super tight cuts all day - and it's not too late for you to holla at me. Hit me up at 313-778-1479 - I'll get you in the chair today.

Hats Off Draft Picks!
Last week 60 picks were drafted into the NBA - my congratulations goes out to these cats, however I would be remiss if I didn't remind them to take off those hats.
With all the excitement of their new addition to the team, they will likely wear their hats everywhere - the grocery store, park, club - even to bed. But like I've been telling all my customers for the past 20 years- your hair needs to breathe or it will fall out1. That's right - let the scalp breathe to keep it healthy and prevent light spots like LeBron's or even worse, complete baldness. I can't say that it will prevent all hair loss but letting your hair breathe will certainly help.
Come see your Barber Tone who just so happens to specialize in cuts to address light spots in your hair caused by any reason. And if you are keeping those hats off, make sure you keep a tight cut to show off. I'm at the shop today to help you on out - you next in the chair. Call / Text 313-778-1479.

Always Be Ready For The Camera ... A Lesson From Aaron Hernandez
Recently NFL Player, or shall I say former NFL star Aaron Hernandez was arrested and charged with murder. I couldn't help but notice that even with cuffs on, his cut was pretty crispy - nice fade done by his barber as seen in the photo below. His haircut fits his style - low and easy to maintain, which will be good until he awaits his day in court.
Question - Did A.H. prepare for this situation by getting a cut ahead of time? Was he trying to look his best for his mug shot?
Lesson here - you never know what might go down so keep a fresh cut. Come see your barber - I'll be at the shop today by appointment so call / text 313-778-1479 Tone when you're ready.
Oh and comments welcome...
